Pest Control SydneySame-Day Pest Control Sydney: When to Call and What to Expect

Same-Day Pest Control Sydney: When to Call and What to Expect | BugFree

Quick Answer

BugFree treats cockroaches, ants, spiders, rodents, fleas, and most common household pests on the same day across Greater Sydney. Most suburbs are reached within 30-60 minutes during business hours (7am-8pm, 7 days). Call 1300 855 548 for an honest ETA based on your postcode.

Termites and birds need an inspection first. Keep reading to find out what to do right now while you wait.

You pull out the fridge to look for something and there they are. Cockroaches. A lot of them. It's 7:30am, you've got kids at home, and your first instinct is to grab the can under the sink and spray everything you can see.

Stop. Don't do that yet. It will scatter them, push them deeper into your walls, and make the professional treatment harder.

Here's what you actually need to know: whether same-day help is available, how fast it can get to you, and what to do in the next 30 minutes.

What counts as a pest emergency in Sydney?

Not every pest problem is urgent. Some can wait a day or two without getting significantly worse. Others genuinely cannot.

A pest situation qualifies as urgent when there's an active infestation (not just a single sighting), when the pest poses a direct health or safety risk, or when the infestation is spreading fast and every hour makes treatment harder.

Here's a simple way to think about it:

  • Urgent (call now): Cockroaches in the kitchen, rodents in the roof or walls, fleas throughout carpet areas, wasps building a nest near a door or play area, ants entering food storage.
  • Important but not an emergency: Spider webs appearing regularly, silverfish in wardrobes or books, occasional ant sightings outdoors.
  • Can wait for a scheduled inspection: Suspected termite activity (get it inspected, but don't disturb anything), possum in the roof, bird nesting on a ledge.

If you're unsure, call us on 1300 855 548. We'll tell you honestly whether you need someone today or whether a scheduled visit makes more sense.

Which pests does BugFree treat on the same day?

BugFree carries treatment product for all common Sydney household pests on every vehicle. That means most residential jobs can be handled in a single visit, on the same day you call.

What to do while you wait for the technician

The 30-60 minutes before the technician arrives matters. Do the right things and you make the treatment more effective. Do the wrong things and you could scatter the infestation and make the job harder.

What to do right now

Move food off bench tops and into sealed containers. Remove any food sources in the problem area. This includes pet food, fruit bowls, and anything open in the pantry.
Move pets to a room that won't be treated. Once treatments are dry (1-2 hours), they can return. Ask the technician which rooms they'll be treating.
Take note of where you're seeing activity. Which rooms? What time of day? Under the sink? Behind the fridge? This information helps the technician locate the harborage points faster.
Ventilate the area. Open windows if possible. Good airflow helps treatments dry faster and reduces any product smell after the visit.
Do not spray over-the-counter products before we arrive. Supermarket sprays scatter cockroaches and rodents into areas that are harder to treat. They mask the trail patterns the technician uses to find the harborage.
Do not seal cracks or gaps yourself. If you seal an entry point, you could trap pests inside the wall cavity where they'll die and cause odour issues, or simply find another route. Leave the sealing to the technician.
Do not use pest bombs or foggers. They push pests into wall voids and cavities, they don't eliminate infestations, and they leave residue that interferes with professional gel baits.

What happens on a same-day visit, step by step

Here's what to expect from the moment you call to the moment the technician leaves your property.

1

You call and describe the problem

When you call 1300 855 548, our Sydney team (not a call centre) takes your details, identifies your pest, and gives you an honest ETA. They'll also tell you what to do in the meantime, including whether to clear cupboards before the technician arrives.

2

Technician arrives and inspects

Your technician doesn't just spray on arrival. They inspect the property first: checking harborage points, assessing the severity, identifying the species, and looking for entry points. This takes 10-15 minutes for most residential jobs and is how we avoid treating the wrong problem.

3

You get a clear price before anything starts

After the inspection, you receive an upfront quote. No surprises, no add-ons. If the job requires additional work beyond the standard treatment, we'll explain why and what it costs before touching anything.

4

Treatment is applied to the right areas

Professional-grade products go where pests actually hide: inside wall cavities, behind kickboards, into subfloor areas, around drain entry points. Not just the surfaces you can see. Most residential general pest treatments take 30-60 minutes to complete.

5

Technician explains drying times and what to expect after

Before leaving, your technician walks you through drying times (typically 1-2 hours), which areas to avoid initially, ventilation requirements, and what's normal in the days after treatment. If you're treating cockroaches, seeing more activity in the first 24-48 hours is common as pests are flushed from their harborage. That's the treatment working.

6

Follow-up if needed

For German cockroach infestations and some rodent situations, a follow-up visit is scheduled. German cockroach treatments typically require 2-3 visits over 4-6 weeks to fully break the breeding cycle. This is included in our treatment plan, not a hidden extra charge.

When same-day isn't the right option

We want your business, but we want it to be the right call. Here are the situations where same-day treatment is either not possible or not the best approach.

Be upfront about these situations

  • Suspected termite activity. Never attempt to treat termites yourself, and don't book a general pest spray for them. Termites require a specialist inspection using thermal imaging and moisture detection before any treatment is recommended. Disturbing an active termite colony without a proper assessment can cause them to retreat deeper into the structure, making treatment harder. Book a termite inspection and do not disturb the area.
  • Large commercial properties. Restaurants, childcare centres, warehouses, and large strata complexes typically need a site assessment first to design a treatment plan that meets compliance requirements. We can usually schedule that assessment same-day or next day.
  • Properties where pre-treatment preparation hasn't been done. If you haven't been able to clear cupboards or move food, some treatments are less effective. The technician will advise you on this during the booking call.
  • Very heavy infestations requiring multiple treatment types. Some situations (severe bed bug infestations, for example) require preparation and multiple treatment methods that can't all be done in a single visit. We'll be honest with you on the phone about what's realistic.

Frequently asked questions

Is same-day pest control more expensive?
No. BugFree charges the same price regardless of whether you book same-day or in advance. General pest treatments start from $89. The only things that change the price are the type of pest, the size of your property, and the severity of the infestation. You'll always receive an upfront quote before any work begins.
Can you treat cockroaches in one visit?
It depends on the species. For larger cockroach species (American, Australian) entering from outside, one visit is usually sufficient. For German cockroaches, most infestations require 2-3 visits over 4-6 weeks to fully break the breeding cycle. Cockroach eggs survive the initial treatment, so follow-ups are almost always needed for German cockroach infestations.
What if my pest isn't listed above?
Call us on 1300 855 548 and describe what you're seeing. BugFree treats all common Sydney pests. If it requires a specialist inspection first (e.g. termites or bird infestations), we'll tell you that upfront rather than sending a technician who can't help.
Is same-day treatment safe for kids and pets?
Yes. BugFree uses approved, low-toxicity products. Once treatments are dry, typically 1-2 hours depending on the product and ventilation, children and pets can re-enter treated areas. Your technician will tell you the specific drying time and any precautions before they begin.
I'm seeing more pests after the treatment. Is that normal?
In the first 24-48 hours after treatment, it's common to see more pest activity than usual. This is the treatment working: pests are being flushed from their harborage points and are coming into contact with the treated surfaces. Activity should reduce significantly within 2-5 days. If you're still seeing heavy activity after 5-7 days, call us and we'll reassess.
Do I need to leave the house during treatment?
For most general pest treatments, you don't need to vacate the entire property. Your technician will let you know which rooms to stay clear of during treatment and for how long. For more intensive treatments (e.g. bed bug heat treatment), you may need to be out for a longer period. This will be communicated clearly before any work begins.
